Destination Zimbabwe and Tourism Minister Rwodzi Win Accolades at the PATWA Awards

In a moment that electrified the Global Tourism arena, Zimbabwe soared to new heights at ITB Berlin 2026, clinching two prestigious accolades at the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) Awards and reaffirming its position as a rising powerhouse on the world travel stage. The country was crowned Destination of the Year – Natural Wonders in recognition of its exceptional heritage, conservation leadership and authentic Tourist experiences, while the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Zimbabwe Hon Barbara Rwodzi earned the distinguished title of Tourism Minister of the Year – Africa for her transformative and innovative leadership.

From the thunderous majesty of Victoria Falls to the vast wilderness of Hwange National Park, the iconic landscapes of Mana Pools National Park and Gonarezhou National Park, the cultural splendour of Matobo Hills, the serene beauty of the Eastern Highlands, the mystical depths of Chinhoyi Caves and the historic grandeur of Great Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe’s tourism offering continues to captivate discerning global travellers. The recognition also reflects bold sector reforms, including the successful hosting of the UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Africa in honour of our Patron of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Her Excellency The First Lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, the rollout of nationwide Gastronomy competitions empowering Women and Youth and the implementation of a 13-cluster Tourism diversification model expanding the sector beyond wildlife. Backed by the re-engagement drive of President Cde.
