Mashonaland East Province | Amai’s Traditional Cook-Out Competition 2026

Zimbabwe’s Gastronomy Tourism narrative continues to grow as a key pillar of the country’s destination offering, with Nyadire Teachers’ College in Mashonaland East Province came alive with colour, aroma and cultural pride during the 2026 Amai’s Traditional Cookout Competitions today. A total of 45 contestants, drawn from Professional Chefs, Tertiary Students, Community Members and Persons with Disabilities, showcased exceptional Culinary artistry rooted in Zimbabwe’s rich Heritage, reflecting the growing transformation of indigenous Cuisine into a strong Tourism product. Representing the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Barbara Rwodzi, Permanent Secretary Dr Takaruza Munyanyiwa emphasised Tourism as a driver of Culinary Heritage preservation, social cohesion, and Sustainable Economic Growth, while highlighting the devolution of programmes to grassroots levels and the Inclusive National Development vision of “leaving no one and no place behind,” in line with His Excellency The President Cde. Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa Vision 2030. He also noted ongoing efforts to institutionalise Gastronomy Tourism as a key Tourism pillar, alongside the strategic guidance of the Patron of Tourism and Hospitality, Her Excellency The First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa. Anchored by the presence of traditional leaders, the competition reaffirmed the deep Cultural significance of Gastronomy within Zimbabwe’s Tourism landscape, while demonstrating Inclusivity and Community participation at scale. More than a celebration of food, the initiative continues to position Gastronomy Tourism as a strategic driver for entrepreneurship, cultural preservation and destination branding, empowering communities across all provinces to transform Heritage into thriving Tourism Enterprises and inviting the world to experience Zimbabwe’s living traditions. #Amai‘sTraditionalCook-outCompetitions #ExperienceZimbabwe #NhakaYedu #IlifaLethu #OurHeritage #ThisIsUs #ZimBho
