Zimbabwe continues to assert its place at the heart of Global Tourism dialogue as the Secretary-General of UN Tourism, Ms Shaikha Al Nuwais and her delegation paid a courtesy call on His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde. Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa, at his Munhumutapa Offices in Harare this afternoon. The Secretary General was in the country from 27 April to 1 May 2026 for the 23rd UN Tourism Committee on Sustainable Tourism Meeting and the 2nd UN Tourism Regional Congress on Women’s Empowerment in Tourism in Africa in Victoria Falls. These engagements were bringing together Global and Regional Tourism leaders, Policymakers and Industry players to exchange insights, strengthen partnerships and drive actionable strategies that advance Inclusive Growth, Women Empowerment and long-term Sustainability across Africa’s Tourism sector.
In an interview with the media, the UN Tourism Secretary-General expressed humility at assuming her role and emphasized that dedication will be key to driving meaningful progress in the sector. She commended His Excellency President Mnangagwa’s visionary leadership, as well as the commitment of the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Barbara Rwodzi, in positioning Tourism as a key pillar for Zimbabwe’s Economic Growth and Sustainable Development.
The delegation was accompanied by the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Barbara Rwodzi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Hon. Prof. dr. Amon Murwira.
