50th annual Zimbabwe Air Rally

The skies over Kariba buzzed with activity as the 50th annual Zimbabwe Air Rally took flight. Sixty aircraft of different makes and sizes, with 36 being foreign-registered and 24 local, gathered at the Kariba International Airport for the first leg of the event. This marked the 50th anniversary of the rally, which began in 1974.
The air show captivated the residents of nearby neighborhoods, including Nyamhunga, Mahombekombe, Heights, Baobab Ridge, and Mica Point, who were treated to a spectacular display of aerobatic maneuvers such as turns, climbs, slow and rudder rolls. The event not only boosted the tourism business in Kariba, with hotels accommodating around 170 overnight visitors, but also provided a unique opportunity for the locals to witness the impressive aerial showcase without the need for tickets or permission.
