Mashonaland West Provincial CookOut Competitions

It’s D-day for Mashonaland West. Preparations are currently underway for the Mashonaland West Amai’s Provincial Cookout Competitions at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT). The Cookout Competitions for today, will see students and professional chefs showing off their cuisine prowess as the program is poised to grow Gastronomy Tourism in Zimbabwe.

The Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) Great Hall is a full house with an overflow of participants and attendees of the competition which shows how Zimbabweans are rallying behind the development and growth of the Gastronomy Tourism cluster. Entertainment by local music is keeping the crowds entertained and happy as tourism is the happy place for Zimbabwe.

Hon. M. Chombo welcomed guests to her Province and highlighted that the province has an array of tourist attractions such as national parks, wildlife, Kariba and if traditional foods have a greater uptake will become an attraction as well.

The Guest of Honor, the Minister of the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Hon. Barbara Rwodzi, represented by her Deputy, Hon.Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa toured the food stands to sample the traditional offerings prepared by the contestants. Accompanying him and also tasting the cuisine are the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devotion, Mashonaland West Hon. Marian Chombo, Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Hon. S Sibanda to mention but a few.

The Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. B Rwodzi represented by her deputy Hon. Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa thanked the First Lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Her Excellency, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa for pioneering this life-changing initiative of promoting Zimbabwean Gastronomy as it not only promotes tourism but is beneficial to the people of Zimbabwe given the health benefits of the food. Zimbabwe is playing the first host of the Africa Gastronomy Forum this year in Victoria Falls and the winners will need to up their game to participate there after the National Finals.
