Travel and Experience Zimbabwe Campaign
Travel and Experience Zimbabwe Campaign
As part of efforts to boost investment in the tourism sector and promote the “Travel and Experience Zimbabwe” campaign this festive season, the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, together with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and Mosi-oa-Tunya Development Company, hosted a roadshow today at Hotel Sky in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Zimbabwean delegation, which included 12 tourism operators and the Zimbabwe Investment Development Authority (ZIDA), engaged over 200 delegates, including diasporans and foreign investors, to position Zimbabwe as a premier tourism and investment destination.
South Africa remains Zimbabwe’s largest tourism market, contributing 30% of arrivals from Mainland Africa and 20% marketshare of the total arrivals, with a significant number of travelers being Zimbabweans in the diaspora. Recognizing this, the Ministry has been actively encouraging diasporans to return home during the festive season and to increase their investments in Zimbabwe. Leading the delegation, the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Barbara Rwodzi, outlined strategic opportunities such as the development of the Masuwe area in Victoria Falls, which is earmarked for transformative projects like the ICC stadium for the U-19 Cricket World Cup. She reiterated President Mnangagwa’s vision, “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo”, calling on Zimbabweans in the diaspora to reinvest in the country’s heritage-rich tourism sector.
During the event, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to South Africa, Ambassador D. Hamadziripi, emphasized the critical role of the diaspora in driving tourism growth and economic transformation, noting that tourism contributes 12% to Zimbabwe’s GDP. He highlighted the importance of partnerships with diasporans to unlock further potential in the sector.
