The 2026 Amai’s Traditional Cookout Competitions in Manicaland Province transformed Mutare into a vibrant showcase of Zimbabwe’s Culinary Heritage, reinforcing Gastronomy Tourism as a key pillar of the Tourism sector. Representing the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Barbara Rwodzi, Permanent Secretary Dr Takaruza Munyanyiwa highlighted Tourism’s strategic role in driving Economic growth under President Cde.Dr.E.D. Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, guided by Devolution, Inclusivity and Community empowerment. He applauded the Patron of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Her Excellency the First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, for elevating Zimbabwean cuisine onto the global stage and positioning the country as a rising force in Gastronomy Tourism. He further underscored Cabinet’s endorsement of Eastern Highlands Tourism Development as a catalyst for Job Creation and expanded Tourism opportunities.
Zimbabwean cuisine was positioned as a core Tourism product and a powerful expression of national identity, with the initiative of promoting indigenous flavours to reclaim and preserve the country’s rich heritage for future generations while stimulating Domestic Tourism. Participants were encouraged to commercialise their Culinary skills into viable enterprises, drawing inspiration from previous contestants who have successfully established food businesses. The event concluded with the awarding of top performers across the Persons with Disabilities, Community, Tertiary Students, and Professional Chefs categories.
