Mashonaland Central Cookout Competitions

Today, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa, presided over the 2025 Mashonaland Central Provincial Traditional Cook-Out Competitions at Bindura University of Science Education. This inspiring initiative, conceived by Her Excellency Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa, highlights the empowerment of women as champions of Zimbabwean culture through gastronomy. However, the program has significantly grown to embracing inclusivity notably through the participation of men and people with disability in the community category. Today’s competition featured 47 contestants across four categories comprising of 20 community members, 9 professional chefs, 8 students, and 10 persons with disabilities, all vying for the top position inorder to qualify at the national event, on 25 May 2025.

In his keynote address, Deputy Minister Tongai Mnangagwa said that the Ministry aims to promote sustainable tourism development and drive a robust, inclusive economic ecosystem where it eliminates poverty through employment creation for communities.
He added that the Ministry looks forward to participants leveraging their culinary skills for socio-economic growth beyond the competition, contributing to President E. D. Mnangagwa’s broader vision of becoming an upper middle-income economy by 2030.
