Mashonaland Central Province | Amai’s Traditional Cook-Out Competition 2026
The Amai’s Traditional Cook-Out Competition for Mashonaland Central Province, held at Bindura University of Science Education today, highlighted Zimbabwe’s thriving Heritage-Based Economy, with Tourism at the forefront of attracting Global interest. Rooted in Soft Diplomacy, the initiative reflects the growing International recognition of Zimbabwe, including its 2025 World’s Number One must-visit destination status by Forbes Magazine under the leadership of His Excellency The President Cde. Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa and the re-engagement strategy of “Zimbabwe is a Friend to All and an Enemy to None.”
Through the vision of the Tourism Patron Her Excellency The First Lady Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa, the promotion of National Fabric and Indigenous foods continues to drive Gastronomy Tourism, with the competition showcasing Traditional delicacies such as Mukoyo, Manyanya, Mabumbe and the renowned Seven Days brew positioning Zimbabwe as a unique food storytelling destination that captivates International markets.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Barbara Rwodzi, called on Zimbabweans to take pride in their Heritage and actively participate in Domestic Tourism. She emphasized Intra-Provincial travel as a catalyst for local economic growth and revenue retention, particularly in emerging areas like Kanyemba, which is poised to become a Special Economic Zone anchored on Cultural and Heritage Tourism. The Minister further underscored Government efforts to secure recognition by UNESCO for Zimbabwe’s indigenous foods, while inviting the province to showcase its Heritage at the Sanganai/Hlanganani Dzimbabwe World Tourism Expo 2026 in Masvingo and encouraging women to take part in promoting Zimbabwe’s rich Cultural Identity at the upcoming UN Tourism Regional Congress on Women Empowerment in Tourism for Africa, in Victoria Falls.
