Bulawayo Provincial Cookout Competitions

The Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Barbara Rwodzi who is the guest of honour at the Bulawayo Provincial Cookout Competitions toured the exhibition and contestants’ displays. She is accompanied by other dignitaries who are gracing the event. She expressed her joy and satisfaction as she sampled the various dishes and interacted with the participants who were sharing their preparation processes and the nutritional benefits of their dishes. The dignitaries were impressed by the signature dishes, which are a true representation of the colourful Bulawayo cuisine.

On display at the Bulawayo Provincial Cookout Competions are foods which are unique to the region such as Umxanxa, amacimbi, umcaba, ibhizha umfahla, idelele, isijeza, umcaba. The Chefs have brought on board different culinary variations of the food giving a creative twist to the various dishes providing a colourful display of Zimbawean gastronomy.

The Guest of Honour at the Bulawayo Provincial Cookout Competitions, Hon. B. Rwodzi in her keynote address implored the province to earnestly embrace their heritage and be innovative in producing food items that will in turn enrich local communities as we *leave noone and no place behind.* She added that the patron of the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Amai Dr. A. Mnangagwa is a true visionary who seeks to uphold the heritage of Zimbabwe and enrich local communities through the promulgation of Zimbabwean Gastronomy. It is through her leadership that Zimbabwe will host the first ever African Regional Gastronomy Forum in Victoria Falls.

Honourable B. Rwodzi encouraged communities to pioneer rural tourism projects as they seek to economically empower and enrich themselves. In addition, emphasis was given to the youths to uphold decent dressing and behaviour, which is a representation of our culture and heritage.
