Zimbabwe Taking Steps to Tap into the Lucrative Russian Market

Engagements are ongoing at the Russia-Africa Summit to position destination Zimbabwe as a safe, secure and competitive tourism, trade and investment destination. ZTA and the Ministry participated at the Round Table Meeting with the Russian Business Community on the sidelines of the Summit, co-chaired by Honorable Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Fredrick Shava with Mr Nikolai Sobolev (Zimbabwe Honorary Consul to St. Petersburg). Many investment opportunities across all the sectors of the Zimbabwean Economy were pitched.

The Executive Director for Special Projects, Reason Machigere was given an opportunity to give a brief presentation on Tourism in Zimbabwe. Among other issues raised in the presentation was the need for direct air connectivity between the two countries.

Appetite in safari and cultural heritage was noted in the Russian Community, which clearly showed the untapped potential which can boost arrivals from the Russian Market making it a major source Market.

The Roundtable which was part of the efforts to directly engage the Russian business leaders alongside the Summit , was organised by Mr Sobolev, Zimbabwe’s Honorary Consul to St Petersburg.

Bilateral meetings were also held on the sidelines.
